Treasure supports 128-character passphrases… Model One limited to 50 characters

Trezor has raised the maximum length of its wallet passphrase from 50 to 128 characters, announced via a Trezor Suite app update on the 1st. The passphrase is an optional secret phrase that creates a separate wallet on top of the recovery seed. Applying the new limit requires a firmware update, as devices on older firmware remain capped at 50 characters. Per Trezor's product guidance, the 128-character limit applies to the Model T and Safe 3, 5, and 7, while the Model One stays at 50 characters; passphrases are case-sensitive and count spaces as characters. Trezor cited the July Coldcard attack as the rationale for the change, underscoring passphrase length as a security variable for self-custody users. Watch for whether competing hardware wallet makers follow with similar passphrase enhancements and for adoption of the new limit across Trezor's firmware rollout.
