Brookfield targets $27B AI data center at Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire

Brookfield is targeting a $27 billion AI data center development at the Drax Power Station site in North Yorkshire, England, according to a report by Crypto Briefing. The project would repurpose the site of one of the UK's largest power stations to host AI computing infrastructure, pairing large-scale data center capacity with on-site energy generation. The deal underscores growing competition for power access among AI infrastructure developers, with energy-rich sites increasingly viewed as strategic assets for hyperscale computing. It also signals potential for regional economic growth in North Yorkshire and could set a precedent for converting legacy energy assets into AI hubs. Watch for confirmation of funding structure, timeline, and whether other power station operators pursue similar conversions.
